Former US President Joe Biden, 82, has had surgery for skin cancer, his spokesperson has confirmed, amid an ongoing struggle with aggressive prostate cancer diagnosed in May.
The procedure, identified as Mohs surgery, targeted a basal cell carcinoma—a common skin cancer type—by removing tissue layers for microscopic examination to ensure complete removal of cancerous cells.
Video from late August showed Biden leaving a Delaware church with a visible scar on his head, though the surgery date remains unspecified and he is reportedly recovering well.
This follows a 2023 surgery during his presidency, when a similar carcinoma was excised from his chest, with his doctor confirming its removal. That year, his spouse, Jill Biden, also had two basal cell carcinomas removed from near her eye and chest.
In May, Biden’s office disclosed a stage-four prostate cancer diagnosis, marked by a Gleason score of nine, signaling rapid progression, per Cancer Research UK.
The cancer had spread to his bones, identified during a visit for urinary symptoms. His team noted its hormone-sensitive nature, allowing for effective management through various treatment options under review.
